Your MN Home Closing Day: The Final Countdown
You’ve navigated the inspections and secured your financing—now it’s time for the finish line. Minnesota home closing day is the moment you officially become a homeowner. To ensure a stress-free transition into your new property, there are a few final details that require your attention.
The Final Walk-Through Inspection
Usually scheduled within 24 hours of closing, the final walk-through is your last chance to verify that the property is in the agreed-upon condition. Your NOW Realty agent will accompany you to ensure:
- Repairs are Complete: Any repairs negotiated after the initial inspection should be finished, with receipts provided.
- Everything is Functional: Test the appliances, flush the toilets, and check that the HVAC system is running.
- Broom-Clean Condition: The seller should have removed all trash and personal items, leaving the home “broom-clean” for your arrival.
Important Security Warning: Wire Fraud
As you prepare for your Minnesota home closing day, remain vigilant against wire fraud. Criminals often target real estate transactions by sending fake emails that appear to be from your title company or agent. Always call your title company using a verified phone number to confirm wiring instructions before sending any funds. NOW Realty will never send you last-minute changes to wiring instructions via email.
Setting Up Your Utilities
To ensure the lights are on when you arrive, we recommend contacting utility providers at least one week before closing. Common providers in our service areas include:
- Maple Grove & NW Metro: Xcel Energy, CenterPoint Energy, and Wright-Hennepin Electric.
- Buffalo & Monticello: Buffalo Municipal Utilities and Monticello Utilities.
- Up North (Aitkin/Baxter): Minnesota Power and Baxter Utilities.
The Closing Table
At the closing, you will sign the final settlement statement and loan documents. Whether you are attending in person at a title office in Maple Grove or utilizing a Remote Online Notarization (RON)—which is now a standard convenience in 2026—your agent will be there to support you. Once the documents are recorded and the funds are disbursed, you’ll receive the keys to your new home!
